HOLLYWOOD, CANNES, MEXICO, THE SCENES OF THE CINEMA OF THE YEARS 30 AND 40
This Mexican story begins … in France, at the 1946 Cannes Film Festival. That year, a Mexican film wins a Palme d’Or and tells the world of cinema and the international public that something has changed in Mexico.
This film is Maria Candelaria by Emilio Fernandez, and the role of the heroine is played by Dolores del Rio. The most attentive spectators may be surprised to find in this tragic figure magnified by the photograph of the great Gabriel Figueroa one of the favorite “exotic actresses” of American cinema, the interpreter of Raoul Walsh and King Vidor, but also many Hollywood-style musicals … The film garners awards in several international festivals, Dolores has become an emblem.
