3x – 3 – 4x – 2 = 8x – 8
2. simplify the first side of the equation
– x – 5 = 8x – 8
3.move all the x’s to one side
-5 = 9x – 8
4. completely isolate the 9x
3 = 9x
5. solve
x = 1/3
