At the intersection, y=9- 6/x and y+x = 8 are equal to each other
y + x = 8 is the same as y=8-x
Sub this into y = 9 – 6/x
8 – x = 9 – 6/x
Multiply everything by x:
8x – x^2 = 9x – 6
x^2 + x – 6 = 0
(x-2)(x+3) = 0
x = 2 (so y = 9 – 6/x so y = 9 – 6/2 =6)
x = -3 (so y = 9-6/x so y = 9-6/-3 = 11)
