The solid state is one of the 3 stages which matter undergoes in addition to the liquid and the gaseous state. Matter in it’s solid state contains atoms which are closely packed, In this stage, matter exhibits the least amount of kinetic energy of all three stages hence hindering movement of its particles and exhibiting firmness and rigidity. Solids exhibits a regular arrangement of it’s molecules which differs from the scattered nature of gaseous particles and slightly ordered nature of liquid molecules. Solids exhibits a defined volume , and shape with molecules held together by string attractive forces. Solids can change into liquid through melting or transform directly into gaseous state through sublimation.
