    Actually, a covalent bond is formed between two non-metals. Electrons are shared between the two atoms in order for them to achieve a full outer shell. Covalent compounds do not conduct electricity.   An ionic bond is formed between a mental and a non-metal. Electrons are transferred from the metal atoms to the non-mental atoms to form ions. Ionic compounds conduct electricity when dissolved.
