    Given the following :

    Mass of anchor = 10kg

    Mass of boat = 1000kg

    Note : both boay and anchor are at rest, this gives a Velocity of zero

    The momentum of a body is given as the product of Mass and velocity, that is,

    Momentum = mass × velocity

    Initial Momentum of anchor-boat system =

    (mass of boat× initial velocity of boat) + (mass of anchor × initial velocity of anchor)

    Initial Velocities of boat and anchor = 0

    Therefore,

    Initial momentum = (1000 × 0) + (10 × 0)

    Initial momentum = (0 + 0) = 0

    This is ecause both objects are at rest.
