When the fish jumps in the air, the light from the fish to the bear eye does not cross an interface of changing index of refraction. The fish appears exactly where it is in space. When the fish is below the water line and the bear’s eyes above water, the image of the fish will not be a good indication of where the body of the fish exists except when the fish is directly below the bear. Even then, the depth may be deceiving.
