    writing standard form of 0.000 0012 will be

    1.2 x 10^-6 (1.2 into ten to the power minus 6)

    the decimal is going backwards in order to get 1.2 and it has skipped 6 digits/numbers in between.

    for positive power,it is when you go forward

    for example,

    writing standard form of 8000 will be

    8 x 10^3 (eight into ten to the power 3)

    there is no decimal in 8000,so we move the decimal from  the very last 0(zero)
