    A conductor is an object that conducts electricity through it, the mechanism of conduction of electricity is that, the electrons present in the atoms of the conductor are in rapid motion, and when we apply some potential difference across it by using cell, battery or anything, it causes those electrons to move in a particular direction and we know electrons have negative charge on it which , so the movement of charge ( electrons ) through a conductor causes electric current.

    So, from above we conclude that conduction of electric current through a conductor is only possible due to free electrons present in the conductor’s atoms.
