    The length of each piece of board if one piece is 18 cm longer than the other piece is 33 cm and 51cm respectively

    Length

    • Total length of board = 94 cm
    • Length of piece 1 = x
    • Length of piece 2 = (x + 18) cm
    Total = length 1 + length 2
    94 = x + (x + 18)
    94 = x + x + 18
    84 = 2x + 18
    • subtract 18 from both sides
    84 – 18 = 2x
    66 = 2x
    • divide both sides by 2
    x = 66/2
    x = 33 cm
    Therefore,
    Length of piece 1 = x
    = 33 cm
    Length of piece 2 = (x + 18) cm
    = (33 + 18)
    = 51 cm
