Question

PLEASE!! I NEED HELP!!!
Part A. Consider this equation. x − 4 = 16 What is the solution to the equation? Show or explain how you got your answer. Part B. Write a linear equation in one variable that has infinitely many solutions. How do you know it has infinitely many solutions? Part C. Consider this equation. 3(4 + x) = 3x − 6 How many solutions does the equation have? Show or explain how you got your answer.

Answers

  1. Part a)
    x – 4 = 16
    added 4 to both sides; 16 + 4 = 20
    x = 20
    Part b)
    y = x
    I can plug in any value for x and the solution for y will be true.
    Part c)
    12 + 3x = 3x – 6
    18 = 0
    there are no solutions
    18 does not equal 0
    if you graph it the lines are parallel
