Question

Hal’s mom gave him $15.00 on Monday morning to use on lunches. At his school, the school lunch costs $1.50, which he bought Monday through Thursday. On Friday, he decided to buy 4 slices of pizza instead of buying the school lunch. If the pizza costs $1.40 per slice, then how much of the money is left at the end of the school week?

Answers

  1. Answer:
    So, he starts out with $15. Then, Monday – Friday he spends 1.50 every day. (Except Friday.) So then you do 4 days x 1.50 (5 x 1.50 = 6) and that equals 6. Then on Friday, he buys 4 pieces of pizza, and a piece of pizza equals $1.40. So then you do 4 x 1.40, and that equals 5.6. (4 x 1.40 = 5.6) Now you add up 5.6 and 6, and you get 11.6. (5.6 + 6 = 11.6) Then you subtract 11.6 from 15 and you get 3.4! (15 – 11.6 = 3.4)
So, after the week, he has $3.4, so spend on whatever else.
    Hope this helps!!!!!!
