Question

A triangular side panel for a roof has the dimensions shown.

The picture shows a right-angled triangle. The angle of the top vertex is 60 degrees, and the angle of the left vertex is 30 degrees. The length of the hypotenuse is 26 ft.

What is the approximate area, in square feet, of the side panel?

Answers

  1. The area is 146.4 ft².

    What is area?

    Area can be defined as the size of a surface. In other words it is defined as the space occupied by a shape.
    Therefore, area of a triangle can be described as follows:
    area = 1 / 2* b*h
    where
    b = base
    h = height
    Given:
    H= 26 ft
    Using Trigonometry,
    sin 30° = Perpendicular / hypotenuse
    sin 30° = P / 26
    P = 26 × 1 / 2
    P = 13 ft
    Now, using Pythagoras theorem
    c² = a² + b²
    26² – 13² = b²
    b² = 676 – 169
    b = √507
    b = 22.51 ft
    Now,
    Area of triangle= 1/2* b* h
    =1/2* 22.51* 13
    = 146.4 ft²
