A local hamburger shop sold a combined total of 512 hamburgers and cheeseburgers on Saturday. There were 62 more cheeseburgers sold than hamburgers. How many hamburgers were sold on Saturday?

    The Number of cheeseburgers is 62 more than that of hamburgers  
    Let x and y be the number of cheeseburgers and hamburgers
    As we know number of cheeseburgers is 62 more than that of hamburgers  
    => x = y + 62 —-(1)
    And total number of burgers sold = 512
    => x + y = 512 —-(2)
    Substitute (1) in (2)
    => y + 62 + y= 512
    => 2y = 512 – 62
    => 2y = 450
    =>  y = 450/2
    =>  y = 225
